Humane Society rescuers went to the
empty house, and indeed found a little black dog sitting on the
front porch still waiting for its owner to return. The dog was slightly
timid but very happy to see someone. She was quite dirty and smelly,
covered in fleas and ticks, and had a serious infection around a
missing right eye. They offered her food, treats and water, all
of which she declined. She seemed more interested in getting in
the car and getting out of there.

The rescuers took her right to the veterinarian to get her treated.
Neither her eye nor her face had any trauma, so the vet felt she
probably ran into a branch, as the area where she was found was
very wooded. She was treated for fleas and ticks, was given an antibiotic
shot for the eye infection, and was also found to be heartworm positive.
In
foster care, she gained weight, her eye healed somewhat, and she
was successfully treated for heartworm. The rescuers named her Abbie.
Soon, she was ready for adoption.
Now, Abbie has been adopted and is happy in her new home.
Her new owner now has a companion when she takes her walks.
She will always be a special dog, with one eye, but she's
a wonderful loving pet.
