A New
Pet for the New Year! Last year we found new
homes for more than 300 rescued dogs and cats. This
year we want to do even better. For the month of January 2012,
the adoption fee for dogs over 1 year old and cats over 6 months
old is reduced to only $30! Adopt a new pet now, save
money, and have a good new year with your new best friend! Look
here for more information.
FLEA MARKET: Visit
our Flea Market at 3201 Main Ave in Northport for great bargains!
Our
Flea Market is a major source of income for our rescue operations.
And if you are cleaning house for the New Year, remember to
bring your gently used clothing and household items to the
Flea Market.
FOSTER HOMES: We
really need foster homes, to care for animals displaced and homeless
due to the storm. Some of these animals are not available for adoption,
they just need a temporary place to stay while their family looks
for a new home or job. If you can provide temporary care for any
of our animals, please consider applying to become a foster home. Look
here for more information on providing foster care and how to apply.
The Humane
Society of West Alabama is
an all-volunteer
no-kill
animal
adoption
and
rescue agency
and a
501(c)3 charity.

by the tornado or its aftermath, and still hoping -

Storm
Survivors still in need of new homes |

Abby is about 6 months old. She was rescued
after the tornado, but we're not sure she ever had a home.
She's ready for a good home now!
|
|
Timmy is a 7-9 year old poodle in need of
a new home, since his former family could not keep him after
the
storm. Can you help an older animal recover? |

Olivia is a bob-tailed kitten, found walking
through storm debris after the tornado. She is so cute, with
her little bob-tailed hopping walk. Can you give her a home?

HELP
US HELP THEM - ADOPT A HOMELESS PET
We have many
rescued dogs and cats available for adoption. Check
our lists of adoptable dogs and adoptable cats (top of page)
to find your new best friend.
All Humane Society dogs and cats
are in foster care or at one of our animal adoption homes. The
Cat Adoption Center is open most Saturdays 10am-2pm,and
cats may also be seen by appointment. Dogs may
only be seen by appointment, or at our monthly Meet
the Pets event.
Please check out our List
of Cats and List of Dogs on
PetFinder, then contact the
Humane Society to make
an appointment to meet your new best friend.
Don't forget to check
our Featured Pet; this may be the one for you. The
current
featured pet is Pansy, a calico cat.
And look
here for other great pets
that were recently featured; some are still available.
Check out our Events
Calendar to keep up with what's happening at the Humane
Society.
And don't forget to check our Volunteer
page if you have time to help with these events.
STRAY and UNWANTED ANIMALS: Stray,
unwanted and unknown animals should be taken to Tuscaloosa Metro
Animal Shelter. Please DO NOT bring any
stray or homeless animals directly to the Humane Society, we
do not have facilities for accepting such animals!! Metro
Animal shelter is and has been the drop-off site for unwanted
animals, both before and after the storm. The Humane Society
can only care for a limited number of animals. When we have room
to accept more animals, they come to us through our veterinarians,
through our work with Metro Animal Shelter and local animal control,
and through our own volunteers' rescue efforts. We rescue and
find homes for as many animals as possible, but our facilities
and our volunteer efforts are limited!! Introducing
a stray animal with unknown health problems risks the health
of our other animals and jeapordizes our rescue efforts. Please
DO NOT bring any stray, homeless or unwanted animal directly
to the Humane Society!!!!
DONATIONS: We ALWAYS need money. You
can donate through paypal (see link at the left of this page), or
by mailing a check to our Adoption Center (1515 Veterans Memorial
Pkwy, Tuscaloosa) or by bringing your cash or check (no credit/debit
cards) to our Flea Market in Northport during regular operating hours.
We currently have about 120 animals in our care, about 80 of them
awaiting adoption. If you wish to help us with our ongoing rescue
and adoption operations, please consider a donation. We have been
a pet rescue and adoption organization for nearly 40 years. We are
an all-volunteer organization: none of the money we receive through
donations or fundraising is used for salaries.
