| Maddie’s
Fund ®, The Pet Rescue Foundation is a family foundation
funded by PeopleSoft founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl,
to help create a "no-kill" nation. The first step is to
develop programs that guarantee loving homes for all healthy shelter
dogs and cats throughout the country. The next step will be to save
the sick and injured pets in animal shelters nationwide. Maddie’s
Fund is named after the family’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer
Maddie, who passed away in 1997.

Maddie’s Fund awarded a challenge grant
to two projects in Tuscaloosa County:
Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project was a coalition
of local animal rescue organizations (The
Humane Society of West Alabama, T-Town
P.A.W.S., and ADAR)
and the Tuscaloosa
Metro Animal Shelter. As part of this project, Maddie's
Fund also funded the Maddie's
Adoption Room inside Pet Supplies "Plus". This
grant ended March 2010.
Maddie’s Spay/Neuter Project
was administered by the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association
(ALVMA). It provided funds for low-cost spay/neuter surgeries
for
pets of people who receive Medicaid assistance. This project ended
for Tuscaloosa County in 2010. If you need information on current
Spay/Neuter options, visit The
Spay Alabama information site, or the Alabama
Spay Neuter Clinic site. Pet owners on limited income might
qualify for the SNIP
program, which has been extended to Tuscaloosa
County.
